I am shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Kos's passing away. Kos and Naomi were such good friends of ours, and I remember fondly the good times we would have when we got together with the Ishiis and the Samimys. To be robbed of life when so young is indeed tragic and difficult to comprehend. I will always remember Kos's smile and infectious laugh. We had some great times here at OSU as young faculty, working together and having fun. Kos will be sorely missed. My heartfelt condolences to Naomi, and Kos's family, and to the Stanford community.

Yesterday, I was cross-country skiing in the Jura hills by a wonderful sunny March day, wearing a Stanford Engineering Cap and a Stanford Manufacturing T-shirt. These pieces of garment were among the many Kos had brought as presents for us on his visits to Switzerland. He would have liked the gentle roll of the hills under the blue sky, shadowed by tall fir trees; he would have liked the stop for a refreshing drink and a hearty meal in an old farm; he would have liked the calm and peace of this outing; he would have liked to share this moment, like others we shared with him and Naomi.
ReplyDeleteNo more. And suddenly, for a second, the snow became less white, the sky a little greyish, the trees more tortured, as if all were deprived of Kos’s energy, enthusiasm and brilliance.
But then, the memories and the shared experiences remain making us forever richer.
Thanks Kos for these memories and experiences: it has been a privilege knowing you and making part of the way with you.
